Special Therapeutic Processes

In Brief:  Kashti, Drama, Pechaan, Wilderness Therapy & Outbound Experiences – all are innovative and interactive ways to draw individuals outside of their self-imposed boundaries, explore themselves and their situations more deeply, and come to a place of understanding and some semblance of inner peace. Special therapeutic processes are used across all field projects to work with these special groups and address often-turbulent pasts and help refine hazy futures.

Further Details: Drama therapy is used to help project participants begin to explore and express experiences they’ve had or to which they aspire. Whether it is interpreting stereotypes thrust on them, acting out a major life event they dream of, role playing to build confidence, or turning a traumatic event into a piece of drama outside oneself in order to let it go, the use of dramatics in the projects has been a profound tool for the individuals and provided new insight and understanding of case details for the case workers.

Pechaan, or Identity, was developed on the realization that while participants in the Girls Project are being empowered through a variety of activities and holistic rehabilitation programs, many have still not discovered who they are deep down and the confidence that comes with that self awareness and self identification. A structured program requiring commitment of participation for the duration, several formats are used including group discussions, Outbound experiences, written expression, and more. Pechaan is used primarily with participants nearing the end of their time within Saathi structures.

Wilderness Therapy and Outbound Experiences remove the individual from their usual environment and comfort zones by conducting camps in natural settings and utilizing adventure activities with focused and facilitated debriefing sessions. Facing anxieties and fears in their physical forms provide parallels for examining self-imposed barriers while the unusual setting and activities nurture different ways of looking at situations and challenges.

These therapeutic processes and other innovative and sensitive ways of working with vulnerable groups are also extended to peer organizations and institutions with which Saathi is involved (ie, Children’s Home), on request or as identified and offered by Saathi.
