Juvenile Justice
An initiative was evolved to closely coordinate with the Juvenile Justice Systems that have significant impact on participants' lives.
Systems are partnered to provide training, assist with complicated cases, and foster a better understanding of tools available to protect and work with juveniles in need of care and protection and in conflict with the law. These systems and agencies include:
- Child Welfare Committees (CWC),
- Juvenile Justice Board,
- Children’s Home,
- Department of Women and Child Development (DWCD),
- Aftercare institutions,
- Railway Protection Force (RPF),
- Government Railway Police (GRP),
- City Police
Trainings focus on sensitization and awareness building of systems on the latest in Juvenile Justice and about the participant groups with which Saathi works. Saathi has been conducting trainings for RPF personnel, Mumbai Division, Western Railway since 2007. Saathi has also trained GRP on Juvenile Justice and trafficking issues. Child Welfare Officers of Mumbai Police were also trained on the Juvenile Justice Act by Saathi.
Saathi engages proactively with policies that relate to or are impacted by the J.J. Act. This includes submitting opinions on new or under-revision policies as well as participating in "watchdog" bodies to ensure policies and their implementing bodies are acting in the best interest of the child or juvenile. |
