Education Program

Program: Saathi believes education can be used as a powerful tool to empower and change the lives of the young adults with whom the organization works. Most of these young people have had very little exposure to education, but still have a keen desire to learn. The program strives to keep that spark alive by providing equal opportunities to every learner who is referred. 

Activities and Objectives: Non-formal Education program incorporates topics of practical value, interest and relevance to learners who belong to diverse backgrounds. Besides basic reading and writing skills, the learners are also exposed to sessions in life skills, value education and general awareness sessions. Interactive sessions, discussions, film shows, exposure visits and other innovative techniques are used to stimulate their imagination and provide them with experiential learning. Many of the learners are also motivated, encouraged and prepared to appear for National Institute of Open Schooling exams.

Support classes for municipal school children are conducted to develop and strengthen their basic skills of reading and writing using innovative techniques, thereby preventing dropouts and increasing chances of their retention in school. Efforts are being made to transform the drab and lifeless topics taken from their history and science textbooks into interesting and interactive sessions using audiovisuals, to make learning a truly joyful process for these children.

Awareness sessions on health, post-natal care, immunization, and prevention of diseases with a local pavement community has shown how Education can make a difference in the lives of people, living under the constant fear of demolition and the daily struggle for survival in the city.
