After-Care services as stated in the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act 2000 amended in 2006 are provided to young adults leaving residential institutions such as children’s homes and special homes at the statutory age of eighteen. The eligibility for After- Care as stated in the Act is that a juvenile or child over 17 years of age but less than 18 years of age would stay in the After-Care organization till the age of 20.
Young Adults who need support when they come out of these institutions may be sent to After-Care homes where they can stay up to the age of 20. These After-Care homes are designed to help the young adults make the transition from institutional life to mainstream society.
